ROM Hacking Thread!

Now before you go "ZOMFG ROMS ARE ILLEGAL" yes, yes they are. However, if you do not post links to ROMs then it's legal to talk about them. Also, once you have an illegal ROM which has nothing to do with this site then you can edit them & send people the code you made in what's know as an 'IPS' patch. This is perfectly legal because you're only sending people what you yourself made.

If you want to hack Super Mario World you need the ROM, then you need an emulator (I suggest ZSNES), then you need a variety of programs to edit the game. But if you just want to try it out then download "Lunar Magic" the level editor.

The 3 essential things for hacking Super Mario World are:

1. The ROM,
   
2. The emulator,
   
3. The editor.

Mine is Super GOTHCLAWZ World. I distribute the BETA version to very select people. Ones I trust. These people must be willing to make a YouTube review & they must never send the game to anyone.


Here's a sneak peek of the map. I may only be opening the first 2 or 3 stages for the BETA hack.

I have seen you post this on another fourm, It looks real cool. I used to edit Pokemon Roms with Advance Map and Advance Text . With these you wouldn't need to patch it because it would edit the rom directly. Ill see if i can find some of my old unfinished poke adventures

Also if you'd trust me, I would love to review your game and put some footage on YT.

played almost every Megadrive ( Genesis ) game back in the oldish days and had to download them again
( played them all while working in a quiet Sports shop ( unlocked internet...hooo love it x^D )

Lunar Magic only edits Super Mario World 1990, 1991 & the 1993 version with Mario All Stars attached to it.

Yay for hacking.This is just like making madness interactive mods in a different style.
Tho i got 1 question.Is it gonna be in .exe file when it is finished,because i never played super mario world so i couldnt know in what format it will be.
Also;when is super gothclawz world gonna be released?

Hacked roms are in rom format, It depends on the console which exact rom format it would be.


GBA roms are in .GBA format whilst while SNES roms would be in SMS format.

No, it's a Super Nintendo Entertainment System game. So it will be in SMC.

Well, it's in .smc so when you get ZSNES you can play all .smc ROMS on there.

That's awesome, I'll probably end up making an Eclipse Mario World, thanks for the info!

EDIT: Downloaded the ROM+Lunar Magic, it really is easy to use! I've already got part of the first level done, thanks man!

I'm wrapping up a 2010 BETA but I'm not going to be doing any serious work unless I am allowed back on SMWCentral. In fact, my BETA is exclusively for people I really trust & they must do a YouTube video review. The ROM is not open to the general public. If I actually complete Super GOTHCLAWZ World (in 2015 or so) it will be exclusively on Newgrounds. Not on their site.

Same.. But i had about 50 Diffent programs.. i was able to edit every aspect of the games.. unfortanaly i failed to learn the scripting necessery.. it wasnt as easy to pick up as actionscript or VisualBasic
